CHAPTER EIGHT

Sara was standing at the port opening when he entered their quarters. He sat the plate down on the table and approached her carefully, aware of a new determination. She felt it too, because she stiffened and turned to watch him warily. The lights were on low but he could see as well as if it were day light, and her eyes glowed golden in the dark.

"I'm holding you to your word,” she said firmly from the shadows.

"Why?" He asked quietly his voice coming out with a soft rumble, almost a purr. "We both know we will not make it to port."

"You knew this would happen when you promised me the seven days,” she accused.

"How? I have never mated before. None of my kind has, not for two hundred years." He paused to let the anger flow out of his words. "I am as unprepared as you are for the mating heat. I did not know it would be like this." He did not stop speaking as he moved closer. "I do not think it would be wise to wait. I am not..." He stumbled unsure and she searched his eyes as he stopped before her. "I do not want to hurt you." They were a deep gold fire and she felt an answering kindle in her own body. "Already I do not have the control I should."

"I don't want this. Not any of this." There were tears she had sworn she would not shed again in her voice. "Please Creeg. Please take me home before it's too late." But she knew even as she said it that it was already too late.

"We finish this tonight. Now." His hand grabbing hers, Creeg pulled her to him. The feel of his heat pressed all along her length was enough to set fire to her skin. What would happen when there was nothing but skin between them. His voice was a growl in her ear as he buried his nose in the silky fall above her ear. "There will be no more talk of going anywhere but with me. You are Tellox. You are my mate. There is nowhere to go but here."

His arms circled her, one behind her knees and one behind her shoulders so that she was cradled in his arms while he carried her to his bed. Her arms tangled around his neck and she pressed her face into the curve of his neck looking for comfort despite the fact that he was the one responsible for all of it. He held her tighter. Placing a soft kiss on her forehead, Creeg sat down with her still cradled in his arms.

"This won't change anything. I'm going to keep fighting until you take me home. I was not bred for captivity either."

He exhaled loudly, holding her close and rubbing his cheek along the top of her head.

"Maybe not,” he said. Burying his fist in her hair, he pulled her head back to look into her eyes. "But you were made for me.
